What to Expect

At Jefferson Valley Baptist Church we seek to give reverent and joyful worship to our great and glorious God. We follow the “Regulative Principle of Worship,” which simply means that God’s word alone regulates all of our Lord’s Day worship. In other words, we seek to only do in our corporate worship what God’s word has commanded for New Covenant believers. We do not believe that we can stray from his word in worship by ignoring certain commands, nor do we believe that we can add to the worship of God by getting creative and doing things according to our wills. Because of this, we are committed to the public reading of Scripture, corporate prayer, singing with music in our hearts to God, the preaching of the word, and the ordinances of baptism and the Lord’s Supper.
Sunday morning is primarily a time for the corporate body of believers to worship “in spirit and in truth” (John 4:24). We spend time listening to and corporately reading passages from the Bible. Our music is a mixture of traditional and modern hymns and songs. We give great emphasis to the preaching of the Word, so the sermon is often the longest item on our Sunday morning agenda. The sermons focus on Christ’s redemptive work (i.e. the gospel) and our response to it.
